ROLINE - Quality makes the difference

The products of our own brand ROLINE are designed for professional continuous operation.

With a 2-year functional guarantee * we stand by our performance promise.

*   Excluded from the 2-year functional warranty on ROLINE computer accessory products are telephone accessories, PC systems, 19'' server systems, TFT/PLASMA displays, TFT/TV/PLASMA mounts, keyboards, consumables, power supplies, batteries, LEDs and wear parts.

Our ROLINE products are developed for professional and industrial users and differ fundamentally in quality from comparable products from the IT environment.

The high compatibility in interaction with other devices is exceptional.

ROLINE products comply with all prescribed European standards and directives. The specifications and requirements of the various standards and technologies are strictly followed.

To achieve this with our own brand ROLINE, computer accessories and network products from our suppliers have been regularly put under the microscope in our in-house test laboratory since the company was founded. If a product does not meet our ROLINE requirements, it does not find its way into our product portfolio.

There are many reasons for this, ranging from non-compliance with technical specifications, violation of legal requirements (electromagnetic compatibility, harmful substances, device safety) to quality defects.

The difference

The difference between our ROLINE brand products and standard products from other brands is illustrated below with a few examples.

USB cable

ROLINE USB cable

  • The data wires correspond to AWG28.
  • The power cores correspond to AWG24 (the lower the AWG number, the higher the cross-section).
  • The material used is solid copper.
  • The shielding consists of a foil shield and a tinned copper braided shield with a coverage greater than 65 %.

Cheap USB cables

  • The data wires correspond to AWG 30 and worse.
  • The power cores correspond to AWG 30 and worse.
  • The material used is CCA = solid aluminium covered with a thin copper layer.
  • The shielding consists of a foil shield and a braided shield made of an alloy with a coverage of less than 30%, or completely without shielding.

Effects

  • Data loss due to poor electrical properties of the data wire pair.
  • Even from a short distance, the power supply of the connected devices is no longer guaranteed due to an excessive ohmic resistance of the power wire pair.
  • High susceptibility to interference due to poor shielding properties lead to data loss and transmission errors.

Data cable (Centronics, RS-232, VGA, Audio+Video)

ROLINE data cable

  • The data wires correspond to AWG28.
  • The material used is solid copper, the shielding consists of a foil shield with two wires and, depending on the type, additionally of a tinned copper braided shield as well as a shielded connector housing, the contacts of the connectors are gold-plated.

Cheap data cables

  • The data wires correspond to AWG 30 and worse.
  • The material used is CCA = solid aluminium coated with a thin copper layer, or CCS = solid steel coated with a thin copper layer.
  • The shielding consists of a foil shield without two wires, braided shielding is missing and the connector housings are not shielded.
  • The contacts of the connectors are not gold-plated, but at best "touched" with gold.

Effects

  • Data loss due to poor electrical properties of the data wires.
  • Data transmission is no longer possible even from a short distance, because the impairment of the data signal is too strong due to the cable's high ohmic resistance.
  • High susceptibility to interference due to poor shielding properties leads to data loss and transmission errors.
  • After a few mating cycles, clean contacting is no longer possible, which leads to sporadic interruptions or total failure.

SVGA cable (for high resolutions)

ROLINE SVGA cable

  • The RGB cores are coaxial cables with 75 Ohm.
  • The data cores correspond to AWG28 and there are 7 or 9 of them depending on the version.
  • The material used is solid copper.
  • The shielding consists of a foil shield with two wires and a tinned copper braided shield as well as a shielded connector housing.
  • The contacts of the connectors are gold-plated.

Cheap SVGA cables

  • No coaxial wires are used for the RGB signals.
  • The data wires correspond to AWG 30 and worse; there are max. 4.
  • The material used is CCS = solid steel covered with a thin copper layer.
  • The shielding consists of a foil shield without a two-wire shield, braided shielding is missing and the connector housings are not shielded.
  • The contacts of the connectors are not gold-plated but at best "touched" with gold.

Effects

  • Very poor image representation even at short distances due to poor electrical properties of the data wires and non-existent RGB coaxial wires.
  • Even at short distances, synchronisation is no longer possible due to the high ohmic resistance of the cable.
  • High susceptibility to interference due to poor shielding properties lead to disturbances in picture transmission.
  • After a few mating cycles, clean contacting is no longer possible, which leads to sporadic interruptions or total failure.

HDMI High Speed cable (for high resolutions)

ROLINE HDMI High Speed Cable

  • 5 individually shielded twisted pair cores.
  • 4 data cores correspond to AWG 30 to 24 depending on the length of the cable.
  • The material used is solid copper.
  • The shielding consists of a foil shield and a tinned copper braided shield as well as a shielded connector housing.
  • The connector contacts are gold-plated.

Cheap HDMI High Speed Cables

  • No twisted pair pairs are used.
  • The data wires correspond to AWG 30 and worse.
  • The material used is CCS = solid steel coated with a thin copper layer.
  • The shielding for the individual twisted pair pairs is missing.
  • The overall shield consists of a foil shield and a braided shield with very little coverage, or this is missing completely.
  • The contacts of the connectors are not gold-plated but at best "touched" with gold.

Effects

  • No transmission of images possible even at short distances due to poor electrical properties of the data wires.
  • High susceptibility to interference due to poor shielding properties lead to disturbances in image transmission.
  • After a few mating cycles, clean contacting is no longer possible, leading to sporadic interruptions or total failure.

Patch cable

ROLINE patch cables

  • The cables have been tested at the GHMT in Germany and meet the Cat.6 standard.
  • The material used is solid copper.
  • The RJ45 connectors are equipped with contacts with 50µm gold plating.

Cheap patch cables

  • The cables do not meet any standard and do not pass any test.
  • The material used is CCA = solid aluminium coated with a thin layer of copper.
  • The RJ45 connectors are equipped with contacts with max. 3µm gold coating or are merely "dipped".

Impact

  • The speeds of 100 MBit/s (Cat.5e) or 250 MBit/s (Cat.6) cannot be achieved.
  • The inflexible material leads to interruptions and data loss after repeated bending.
  • After a few mating cycles, clean contacting is no longer possible, which leads to sporadic interruptions or total failure.

Power supply cable

ROLINE power supply cable

  • The cores correspond to a cross-section of 0.75 mm² = standard size up to a length of 2m.
  • The material used is solid copper.
  • The cables meet the requirements of the standards concerning equipment safety.

Cheap power supply cables

  • The cores correspond to a cross-section of approx. 0.1 - 0.2 mm² up to 2 m length.
  • The cables do not meet the requirements of the standards regarding equipment safety, as these cables are approved for up to 10A, but guarantee equipment safety for max. 1A.

Effects

  • The insulation melts and there is a risk of fire due to overheating of the cable as soon as the cable is used with powerful devices (more than 1A current consumption).

ROLINE quality assurance using the example of a power cable

The decisive quality criterion for cables are the cross-sections of the individual strands in order to define the cable thickness.

The quality control is only passed if the cable has the required target cross-sections.
