ROLINE - Quality makes the difference

The products of our own brand ROLINE are designed for professional continuous operation. With a 2-year guarantee *, we stand for our performance promise.

Our ROLINE products are developed for professional and industrial users and are distinguished by their quality by comparable products from the IT environment. The high compatibility in the interplay with other devices is exceptional. ROLINE products meet the required European standards and directives. The specifications and specifications of the various standards and technologies are strictly adhered to.

In order to achieve this with our own brand, ROLINE, computer accessories and network products from our suppliers have been scrutinized regularly in our in-house test laboratory. If a product does not meet our ROLINE requirements, it does not find its way into our product portfolio. The reasons are varied and range from the non-compliance of technical specifications, the violation of legal requirements (electromagnetic compatibility, pollutants, device safety) to quality deficiencies.

The difference

The difference between ROLINE and standard products is exemplified by a few product categories ...

USB cable

A) ROLINE USB cable

  • The data cores correspond to AWG28.
  • The current wires correspond to AWG24 (the lower the AWG number, the higher the cross-section).
  • The material used is solid copper.
  • The shield consists of a foil screen and a tin-plated copper braided screen with a coverage of more than 65 %.

B) Cheap USB cable

  • The data cores correspond to AWG 30 and worse.
  • The current wires correspond to AWG 30 and worse.
  • The material used is CCA = massival aluminum coated with a thin copper layer.
  • The shielding consists of a foil screen and a braided screen made of an alloy with a coverage of less than 30 %, or completely without shielding.

Effects:

  • Data loss due to poor electrical properties of the data line pair.
  • From a short distance, the power supply of the connected devices is no longer ensured by an ohmic resistance of the pair of current pairs.
  • High interferences due to poor shielding characteristics lead to data loss and transmission errors.

Data cable (Centronics, RS-232, VGA, Audio + Video)

A) ROLINE data cable

  • The data cores correspond to AWG28.
  • The material used is solid copper, the screen consists of a foil screen with wire and, depending on the type, a tinned copper braided screen as well as a shielded plug housing, the contacts of the connectors are gold-plated.

B) Cheap data cables

  • The data cores correspond to AWG 30 and worse.
  • The material used is CCA = massivuminium coated with a thin copper layer, or CCS = solid steel coated with a thin copper layer.
  • The shield consists of a foil screen without wire, braid shield is missing and the connector housings are not shielded.
  • The contacts of the connectors are not gold-plated but at best "gold-plated" with gold.

Effects:

  • Data loss due to poor electrical properties of the data cores.
  • Data transmission is no longer possible from a short distance, since the impairment of the data signal becomes too strong due to an ohmic resistance of the cable.
  • High interferences due to poor shielding characteristics lead to data loss and transmission errors.
  • After a few plug-in cycles, a clean contacting is no longer possible, leading to sporadic interruptions or total failure.

SVGA cable (for high resolution)

A) ROLINE SVGA cable

  • The RGB cores are coaxial cables with 75 Ohm.
  • The data arrays correspond to AWG28 and there are 7 or 9 depending on the version.
  • The material used is solid copper.
  • The shielding consists of a foil screen with a wire and a tin-plated copper braided screen as well as a shielded plug housing.
  • The contacts of the connectors are gold-plated.

B) Cheap SVGA cables

  • No coaxial lines are used for the RGB signals.
  • The data cores correspond to AWG 30 and worse; There is max. 4.
  • The material used is CCS = solid steel coated with a thin copper layer.
  • The shield consists of a foil screen without wire, braid shield is missing and the connector housings are not shielded.
  • The contacts of the connectors are not gold-plated but at best "gold-plated" with gold.

Effects:

  • Very poor image representation even at short distances due to poor electrical characteristics of the data cores and non-existing RGB coaxial arrays.
  • Even a short distance no synchronization is possible, since the impairment due to too great an ohmic resistance of the cable becomes too strong.
  • High noise immunity due to poor shielding characteristics lead to disturbances in the image transmission.
  • After a few plug-in cycles, a clean contacting is no longer possible, leading to sporadic interruptions or total failure.

HDMI High Speed Cable (for high resolutions)

A) ROLINE HDMI High Speed Cable

  • 5 individually shielded twisted pair pairs.
  • 4 data wires correspond to AWG 30 to 24 depending on the length of the cable.
  • The material used is solid copper.
  • The shield consists of a foil screen and a tin-plated copper braided screen as well as a shielded plug housing.
  • The contacts of the connectors are gold-plated.

B) Cheap HDMI High Speed Cable

  • Twisted pair pairs are not used.
  • The data cores correspond to AWG 30 and worse.
  • The material used is CCS = solid steel coated with a thin copper layer.
  • The shielding for the individual twisted pair pairs is missing.
  • The overall screen consists of a screen and a braid screen with very little coverage, or this is missing completely.
  • The contacts of the connectors are not gold-plated but at best "gold-plated" with gold.

Effects:

  • No transmission of images is possible even at short distances due to poor electrical properties of the data cores.
  • High noise immunity due to poor shielding characteristics lead to disturbances in the image transmission.
  • After a few plug-in cycles, no clean contact is possible, which leads to sporadic interruptions or total failure.

Patch cabel

A) ROLINE patch cable

  • The cables were tested at the GHMT in Germany and meet the Cat.6 standard.
  • The material used is solid copper.
  • The RJ45 connectors are equipped with contacts with 50µm gold coating.

B) Cheap patch cables

  • The cables do not meet any standards and are not tested.
  • The material used is CCA = massival aluminum coated with a thin copper layer.
  • The RJ45 connectors are equipped with contacts with max. 3µm gold coating or are merely "breathed".

Effects:

  • The speeds of 100 MBit / s (Cat.5e) or 250 Mbps (Cat.6) cannot be reached.
  • The inflexible material leads to interruptions and data loss after repeated bending.
  • After a few plug-in cycles, a clean contacting is no longer possible, leading to sporadic interruptions or total failure.

Power supply cable

A) ROLINE power supply cable

  • The cores correspond to a cross-section of 0.75 mm² = standard dimension up to 2 m length.
  • The material used is solid copper.
  • The cables meet the requirements of the standards regarding device safety.

B) Cheap power supply cables

  • The cores correspond to a cross-section of approx. 0.1 - 0.2 mm² up to 2 m length.
  • The cables do not meet the requirements of the standards regarding device safety, as these cables are approved up to 10A, but the device safety for max. 1A.

Effects:

  • The insulation melts and threatens fire due to overheating of the cable as soon as the cable is used with powerful devices (more than 1A power consumption).

ROLINE Quality Control Process using the example of a power cable

A decisive criteria for the quality of cables are the nominal wire cross-sections of the individual twisted strands, which ultimately determine the overall cable thickness. The cable will only be approved by the quality control when this critical requirement is verifiably fulfilled.

However, ROLINE is not just for high-quality PC and multimedia cables. Also in other product areas we carry articles in the usual ROLINE quality:
